ELEVATION
The Body as Prayer
"Elevation" is an image about verticality — not of the body, but of intention. The figure stands with arms extended wide and face turned upward, as if answering a call that exists beyond the frame. The pose carries the weight of something ancient: a gesture of surrender that is simultaneously an act of absolute power. Hard light descends from above, carving the torso with surgical precision while the extremities dissolve into darkness. The result is a figure that appears to float — neither fully present nor fully absent — suspended in the threshold between the physical and the transcendent. There is no narrative here, only posture. And in that posture, everything: longing, release, and the quiet violence of opening completely to the unknown.

Behind the Image
ELEVATION — The Photographer's Statement
"Elevation" AP by ALex Manfredini
"I didn't direct this pose — I recognized it. There's a gesture the body makes when it stops defending itself and simply opens. Arms wide, face up, chest exposed. It's the most vulnerable position a human being can take, and also the most powerful.
I lit it from above because that's where the call comes from in every mythology ever written. The light doesn't flatter — it interrogates. It finds the structure beneath the surface and makes it undeniable. The darkness around her isn't absence; it's the world that no longer matters in that moment.
Elevation is not a religious image, but it speaks the same language as devotion. It's about what happens when you stop holding yourself together and let something larger hold you instead."

Amalfi Mat
Handmade Cotton Paper — A Medieval Tradition for Art
The magic behind handmade paper lies in the uniqueness of every single sheet. A centuries-old tradition kept alive by small, family-driven paper mills producing this limited-edition medium. The deckled edges of Amalfi paper are formed through ancient procedures: cotton pulp is filtered and spread on a wooden screen, manually, sheet by sheet — an art dating back to the 13th century. Each sheet becomes a singular frame that elevates Alex Manfredini's photographs with quiet, irreplaceable elegance.
