About Memories of a Geisha
The Memories of a Geisha represents the beauty and elegance of Japan’s world-famous symbol of culture and history. With their painted kimonos, intricate hairstyles, and striking makeup, the Geisha, at the most fundamental level, are professional entertainers. As a result, they are trained in a variety of Japanese traditional arts, such as dancing, singing, and the art of hospitality.
The Geisha has three different levels. Before becoming a fully-realized geisha, the stages are shikomi (preparation or training), minarai (learning by observation), and maiko. Shikomi is the first and lowest stage. In contrast, the highest-ranking of them, who were the true courtesans, were the Oiran, which means “First Flower,” and the Tayū.
The geisha system was traditionally a form of indentured labor. Although some girls, attracted by the glamour of life, volunteered.
Occasionally, a girl was given by her parents a sum of money to a geisha house. The house then taught, trained, fed, and clothed her for a period of years.
“No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist. With that said, my inspiration comes from the elegance of the geisha representing it with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way. As a result, I created this collection from the beginning keeping in mind the excellence of the Geisha style. From the immaculate style designed by JR Dios Martinez to the unmatched quality of an authentic Italian leather canvas“
An elegant and modern style.
